As a business management graduate, there’s a lot of subjects in our prospectus that involves marketing. Though I am not a marketing major yet this subject really fascinates me especially when we do the actual thing rather than talking about the concepts.  One unforgettable experience I have had in college was when we (entire class) organized a musical event for the whole semester. Our financing knowledge, accounting and marketing were put to a test. The success of the event means the success of our grade, so we really work hard on that. We invested our own money just to keep it going. We were given tickets to sell (50 each student).

Sadly, the persons at my level that time  were  also students and friends who like me have no money so I ended up slashing my ticket price to half just to get my tickets  sold at the last minute.  To make the story short, the success of our event was not by selling tickets but by gathering as many sponsors as we can. Anyway, we learn something from that event.

From the incident above, we can say that this truth is applicable “Marketing is the social process by which individuals and groups obtain what they need and want through creating and exchanging products and value with others” (Kotler). Here we can clearly see that the students as the marketers were driven to market this event for grade’s purposes; sponsors were giving their support for advertising need; musicians were performing for the fees and exposure they would get; and lastly customers were buying tickets for the fun they would experience through music, being with their friends and date for the entire night. Everybody gets various benefits out of this.

Our marketing teacher taught us a simple way to remember what marketing means –its 4 P’s. “The right Product, in the right Place, for the right People, at the right Price, and at the right time.

What my marketing experience above would be good only for doing traditional kind of business because you have to go see the people involved and would be interacting with them personally. But at this moment we will divert our attention to another kind of doing business that is so popular nowadays the E-business. This is different from the traditional kind because of the use of technology. Instead of using typical marketing this kind of business used internet marketing.Internet marketing is the best strategy for today’s business simply because the potential customers spend most of their time online. If businessmen won’t get online and do marketing, their customers won’t find them.
